Travelling to Verbania
Verbania’s closest international airport Milan – Malpensa (MPX), about 55 km southwards. There is a direct bus connection (Alibus) from the airport to Verbania, running 6 times a day. The journey takes ca 1:20 h, online reservation is required. Other airpots in the vicinity of Milano do not have direct connection, and taking a train from Milano Centrale station is recommended if you arrive there.
Verbania can be also reached by train (see below) from various airports in Switzerland, including Geneva or Zurich.
Verbania train station is located on the Simplon Line, connecting Milan to Geneva, Basel and Zurich. Most international trains heading towards Milan along this line stop in Verbania-Pallanza or in a nearby coastal town Stresa. Trains from Milan to Verbania or Stresa are scheduled every hour during daytime.
From Stresa, you can reach Verbania by a bus – or by boat across the Borromean Gulf of Lago Maggiore.
Verbania is close to the A26 Highway that serves the Simplon pass, and is located direclty at the National Road SS34 that goes along the western shores of Lago Maggiore towards Locarno.
Verbania is a major ferry terminal for those exploring Lake Maggiore by boat. In principle, it is thus possible to reach the town also by boat. You may choose this option for example if arriving to the Stresa train station.
